Great latches (and seller)!

I bought these to keep the french doors to my plant room closed (the original latches kept sticking and I wanted to replace them with something with more character). These fit the bill wonderfully. They were easy to install and open/close smoothly. They feel sturdy and have successfully kept the cats from pushing the doors open and trying to kill themselves with what they seem to see as a plant buffet. Originally one of the two came missing a piece, but I contacted the seller and they sent a full replacement out the next day and that one arrived in perfect condition. Although I would've loved a few more style options (not a huge heart fan myself), these are fantastic and I would definitely buy them again.

Made well and sturdy for our indoor doggie gate

Reading all of the reviews, I decided to order the latches because they were so nice. The black wrought iron gate flip latch is very sturdy and stable. We purchased 3 sets. One for each hardwood dog gate, we created for our home. They are adorable and well made! I would not use them on an exterior barn door or stable. The latches are not large enough to support massive doors and weight, so it is important that you read all of the detail regarding them before purchase. I would recommend them for handmade hardwood dog gates, kitchen cabinets, or for crafting if you are re-purposing antiques. So all of the negative reviews are due to the fact that they did not do their own research. With the order, we also purchased the 5 1/4 or 5 1/2 inch wrought iron hinges to attach to the frame of our hardwood dog doors. I apologize when it comes to the exact measurement but, you can find them here on Amazon. So with all of this said, we are absolutely satisified with our purchases, Thank you!

No directions for installation

Almost a perfect match to the one I have from the 1850s. If you're not handy with tools or a carpenter you should not attempt to install this yourself. There are no installation instructions.

Great Latch!

We have an old solid wood door as my home office door. We've never had a working latch on it mostly because we just never took the time to work on it. I started a new job recently that made it important to be able to close and latch the door. The best Home Depot could offer was a giant latch system made for an outdoor fence gate which was way too big for the door to my tiny office. I saw this one, showed it to my husband and we ordered it straight away. It arrived safely but without instructions. We're pretty handy with most projects but this one seemed to be missing the piece that holds the latch on to the back side of the door. It seems like this is the intent and that piece wasn't really missing, it's just simply not supposed to be there. The latch is held on by a single screw that allows it to swing up and down without issue. Installation was easy and the screws held up about as good as any other screws of that size. Not great but not awful. The only issues we came across are specific to the door and the door frame and not the latch itself. Overall we're very pleased with the look and feel of the product and will likely buy more as we look to replace more door latches around the house.

Great latch / Horrible screws

I highly recommend the latch for the latch itself. The supplied screws are garbage. As soon as any pressure is applied to them, they strip. Have your own fasteners handy and you won't have any trouble.Also, no instructions are provided, but you can look for videos on youtube if needed.

So many reviews said there were no directions! In my opinion and I am a 70 year old grandmother they were very easy! I watched a video on you tube for attaching a thumb latch and it was very clear to see how easy it would be! I love it so far! The flathead screw are a pain but they are very authentic! I couldn’t be more pleased! Also lightning speed on the delivery!

Sturdy parts

Have not yet installed. The parts are very well designed.

Will return because there were no directions and it isn’t exactly as described. My experienced contractor was thrown a curve trying to install . Even a diagram showing installation would be a help . A little lighter in feel than others I have purchased . Just wasn’t right for my situation, take that into consideration as it may be ok for you .

Heavy duty, worked well through a 2 x 4

The only whine that I will do is that the screws provided with this were worthless. The actual thumb latch is a cast piece and feels good when used. The latch and keeper are good. I drilled one 1-1/4" hole for the unit to operate, which was perfect. The screws are all flat head, and stripped out when attempting to install. I substituted my own, no big deal.

Looks like it is a hundred years old - that's a good thing!

We used this latch in our bathroom door. We were building a "barn" or "horse" theme bathroom. We installed this latch and are extremely pleased with both it's looks and how it functions. It has the appearance of being made on a forge and anvil. Great product!

We needed to replace an old iron door latch on a rustic summer cabin exterior door and this one worked perfectly!

Well made, longer than others, easy to install

Perfect for our project to create wooden screen French doors. Longer than others we found, works great as long as door isn’t slammed from a huge distance. Locks perfectly when door closed normally. Used self closing hinges and it locks great! Looks fantastic too and seems well made....time will tell.

Just what I wanted

I have an 1830 house with this style of latch. I needed one for a new (antique) door I installed and this one matches all of the old ones and was fairly inexpensive (hand forged ones run around $300 and this one was around $24). Very happy with the purchase.

Solid Mechanism and Looks Authentic

I bought this latch to replace a 70 year old latch on our family camp door. It is solidly made and installed quite easy. The only suggestion would be to include a diagram sheet of pieces as they go together. We definitely will be back when another latch is needed.

Expected it not to be as quality as it is. It’s not at all a heavy piece but it’s solid. And once put up on door it looks fabulous and works great. Not at all flimsy or loose when in closed position. We have an indoor pig who loves to try and sneak into our large walk in pantry. I hate the difficult child safety patches that actually work for the type of double doors we have on our pantry plus they are just not convenient or attractive. The hardware in our kitchen match this piece so it fits in beautifully and looks so special and unique. A lot less like we are those crazy parents who lock up the food like we live in a prison. This is not so obtrusive and does the job perfectly. It’s a good side not to look pathetic and to small but it’s not overbearing and big. Highly recommend.

No installation instructions

Looks like it would be good quality, but doesn't even come with installation instructions. Returning because I don't have the time to try and figure out this installation.

Heavy duty, looks great

My boyfriend built a barn style door for our bathroom, we purchased this lock to go with the door. It works great, heavy duty, and we are happy with our purchase.
