Love these

I wanted some locking devices for my sliding barn doors that would go with our theme. These looked like they would match. Wow was I supposed when they arrived. The little box was heavy. I forgot they were iron. I fell in love with them when I opened the box. Not only do they look nice but they have a hinge/ swivel designs that I have never seen before. It's a very strong design and when latched I would put it up against a dead bolt if installed properly. As far as in still it's same as your basic hook and eye set up but with no and I mean no sloping around. The hook fits tight into the eye witch is a perfect fit. I posted several pictures hopefully they will show what I was trying to explain. I'm just so impressed with what they did with this ancient but simple design and improved on it so well . If your looking for a good looking simple easy to install locking device this is it. Hope this will help.

Like the design but not the gritty surface finish

I like the sturdy design of these, but they came with a very gritty abrasive surface. I cannot see what this could possibly lend to the utility of these, but I could seeds how it could mar the surface of any door or cabinet. I wrote to ask what to do. I wanted to sand them with very fine sandpaper. It was suggested I not sand them, but rather spray on a clear coat. That seemed like a messy task and one that could gum up the moving parts. I chose to sand them by hand with 1000 grit sandpaper and it's worked fine.

They are cast

They are brittle (cracked one easily)but if you are careful during installation they are cool.

Lightweight, extremely tight tolerences.

It's... okay. The fitting of the hook in the eye leaves no room for error, making installation tricky, and meaning even small shifts in a door's alignment (say, seasonally) can render the latch difficult or impossible to use. Construction seems somewhat lightweight. Beautiful design, though.

We used these in our 1994 Leprechaun. If you zoom in on the pictures, we put them on the doors. Goes great with the look we were going for. Quality and durability are excellent.

Looks nice, difficult to install

The item looks great - nice and heavy, painted a nice dark black. I ran into two items with it:1) The screws it comes with are junk. They are straight-head, rather than Philips. The groove is too narrow for even the thinnest of my electric screwdriver's bits. The screw heads stripped easily as I was installing the item. I'll need to repaint them black so that the bright silver doesn't show where they stripped. Installation should be a lot easier than this.2) The fit of the hook into the eye is very tight. There's not a lot of wiggle room to get it right. If they don't line up just so, then you can't get the hook to go into the eye. I had to uninstall and install multiple times before I got the eye to work. There should be a little more room for play to make it easier to engage the hardware.

We just hung a barn door for our powder room and needed a lock for privacy and this really fits the bill.I love the way it moves back and forth and up and down.It matches my oil rubbed bronze hardware and it looks great!I’d highly recommend!

Real cast iron

This latch is real iron cast, as opposed to many similar ones just painted with black paint. It's started showing a bit of rust though. Not a problem for me, but might be important for other buyers.

Low quality, but works after modifying

Coating had a “glob” which made the latch unable to fit in the hook. Hubby sanded it off to make it work.

Too large for the area where I planned to use it, but will definitely find somewhere for it to go. Very nice quality and perfect for our 175 year old hunting cabin turned house.

Sliding Bathroom Door Lock

This was Just right for the sliding door we put on our 2nd bath. It is solid, heavy, cast metal and goes perfectly with the antique door we used. I installed it with the catch on the doorframe and the hook on the door; I will probably switch them around because the hook swings around, and if it’s swung back toward the rear doorframe it can catch on the frame.

You should know that these are cast and if you mount them "not perfect" and try to bend the hook it will snap. Drill pilot holes for screws as the heads are soft. All in all...i love them.

Very Strong

Nice! Really very sturdy and easy to install from many different angles. Would highly recommend if you have an odd angle to work with. Would definitely buy again if needed!

Perfect solution for our needs

Strong and well made

I installed a rustic barn door in the breezeway between my house and garage. I mounted these hooks on both sides of the door as a way of securing it. They work great and look great. The extra length of them is perfect considering my door is pretty thick. They seem strong and well made.

Works Great

I recently installed a barn door on my laundry room/bathroom. I installed the latch part to the door jamb inside the bathroom. I installed the eye right to the barn door. The eye is small enough to clear the door jamb when the barn door is opened. A little added privacy for quests who require that in a bathroom.

How to install.

The look and the quality. Even though the slotted screws provided are more "authentic", I would prefer Phillip head ( less finger cuts).

I bought these for wood doors on my pizza oven. I bought all the matching hardware from Adonai. Quality is exceptional (compared to stuff from big-box stores) and unique. I get compliments from everyone who sees them. The look and feel durable and I expect them to last for years and years. Love the way the “hinge” on these works allowing them to be mounted in any direction.

great look, but not completely rust-proof

I already installed this hook and through installation my drill stripped the screw that came with the hook, so i'm not uninstalling easily. I don't know if that means the quality of the screw is cheap or not. That being said, this hook and eye are not completely rust proof. I've had it outside on my deck gate for maybe 2 weeks now and it's already rusting at the joint. I really like the look of this product and recommend if you need it for inside, but for a deck gate, not the best choice.
