These work great as a replacement for rusted 60 year old shutter dogs on my house. They are solid and come with the hardware you need to replace the old ones. I also like that they have a screw bolt that fits more securely in the stone work around my windows.

Exactly as advertised

These are minimalistic in function. You’ll wish you had a stud behind every shutter in exactly the right place because the 5/16” lag bolt wants to bite into something.

Shop local and save money

After receiving them I found them at Home Depot for half the price. They are hugh quality but expensive.

Overpriced

These shutter dogs were made in India, and in my opinion, are overpriced. My main complaint is with the mounting hardware. The mounting bolts don't have a hole drilled in them that can be used with a cotter pin and washer to keep the dog from sliding down the bolt. The shutter dogs sold by Stanley have better mounting hardware.

Quality Shutter Dogs that are better than their picture on Amazon Looks

I finally installed the new shutters I made for my windows and mounted these dogs. They look great and are sturdier than they appear in their Amazon listing, My only complaint is that they should be supplied with spacers so that the dog will stay flat on the shutter when mounted. Since the bolts are smaller than the holes in the dog, the dog leans sideways. Compared to other offerings, I notice that all are sold this way, so I'd still choose these for their quality for the price. The dogs are about 1/4" (estimated) thick, so I'm not concerned about them bending under normal use. Also a small dimensional installation sketch would be helpful, as one could easily locate these too far from or too close to the shutters impairing their function. Luckily I measured carefully before installing them to make sure that were in an optimal position.

Absolutely made my shutters stand out. Very surprised at the quality, although they did need spacers. I cut 1/2" EMT conduit and painted them black.

Heavy material. They did require the purchase of a push nut washer to prevent angling of the S tie-back, but easy fix and they work great.

These are the ones!

These are great! I ordered from three different amazon vendors so I could compare the S Hook before purchasing for all windows. These are by far the best! They are quite heavy; they have a nice flat black paint and they have a subtle texture to them. So much nicer than the others which were either very thin; shinny or overly textured.

Exactly what we wanted...we added a little collar to help keep them straight, but the shutter dogs look great and are a great deal for the price...will order another set to do the back of the house!

The shutter dogs are nice quality and heavy duty. The hardware is garbage. After pre-drilling and inserting masonry anchors, three of the first 6 lag bolts snapped as I socked then in place. I visited the local hardware store and used a combination of case hardened lag bolts and Tapcon lag screws to complete the installation. Rustoleum applied with a Q tip completed the aesthetics. My wife is happy! The shutters look great. Watch out for the hardware. Joe N

Lag screws did not have holes drilled in them, cotter pins or washers to secure back side of dogs.

The shutter dogs themselves are really nice - appropriate size, nice weight, and textured powder coat finish. Unfortunately, the lag bolts supplied are useless, especially when mounting the things on a masonry brick wall. The lag bolts have wood-screw threads, and, therefore, cannot be used securely in a mortar joint. Also, despite the item description, the shutter dogs are not pure cast iron. I concluded that when I found that a magnet would not stick to them. Apparently, some alloy is added in the casting process, or perhaps that they are simply cast aluminum.When mounting on brick, mounting holes must be drilled into mortar joints with a masonry bit. Most mortar joints are 1/4 inch, so that will limit the size of the drilled hole. Concrete anchors (lead or plastic) must then be tapped into the holes, and #10 or #12 screws should then be used to attach the shutter dogs to the wall. Note that a washer will need to be placed beneath each screw head. Also, some sort of hardware must be used behind the shutter dog itself to hold the entire assembly together in order to avoid it being loose and floppy. In my case, I threaded on a nylon faucet washer, backed by a nylon hex nut. At that point, I screwed the whole assembly into the anchor fitting, and it works like a charm.Considering the useless lag bolts, this item is seriously overpriced. But, having said that, it is still the best option I could find for my application.
