Hinges are sturdy and easy to install. Hole placement varied a lot, had to drill additional holes due to alignment with brick placement.

What I Needed

I built ‘board and batten’ shutters from cedar with these hinges. They are good quality considering the price. Not any stainless steel options on Amazon, these are cast iron. I used Rustoleum Pro Black Spray paint and painted them for additional rust protection.

Very solid and attractive support for my shutters

My shutters are long wood shutters, about 5 1/2 feet tall, so they have some weight to them. These hinges are very serious, heavy wrought iron. They did a great job of holding my shutters, plus they are very attractive in a country style. I love them! They also arrived sooner than expected.

Awesome hardware, don’t bother with the provided screws

Really beautiful, heavy, well-made hardware. We built our own shutters and they’re very heavy. I have no doubt this hardware will hold them in place. However, LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS ABOUT THE SCREWS and buy your own. The screws provided are weak…why have such a well made product and provide such terrible screws? We threw them all in the trash after shearing off two heads. Still giving a 5-star review because the hardware is such a quality product.

Strong and good quality hinge.

I used this for homemade wooden shutters that I put on the window of a large chicken coop. They are string and durable and the style looks rustic. Very nice product.

Nice but price increased

These are nice but for some reason shortly after I ordered my first set the price increased $10 and hasn’t come down.

Quality control issues, but sturdy

I bought three sets of these (enough for three windows). Two were without issues, but one set had one hinge that couldn't be used at all without being modified because the pintle (the male part) could not fit into the gudgeon (the female part). And this wasn't just by a little, but by a lot. I had to drill out the female part to its proper size and I had to do it in steps using three drill bits of increasing sizes because the drill (very strong otherwise) didn't have enough power to do the final size all in one go - that's how undersized the hole was. So just be prepared for an occasional issue that requires modification. Otherwise they're great, thick metal, sturdy, not expensive, I'd definitely buy them again.

The holes in the hardware could be larger to accommodate a larger screw with a Phillips screw head .the screws are poor quality as the screw head breaks off very easily.Slotted screw heads are no longer desirable in 2021

Ditch the Included Screws

This vendor had best pricing I found. Overall good product for my needs. Some of the predrilled holes needed enlargement. Even the included screws were too large for those holes. The included screws while we are at it are complete junk. They are too soft and easy to strip/shear not to mention quick to rust. Purchased replacement screws separately.

Excellent strength and quality

I like everything about these hinges- thick sturdy iron straps and welded components. Standard straight slotted heads on screws are a nice touch for appearance, and don’t strip out easily. Black paint coating is thick and didn’t flake or chip during installation.

Very Rustic from sturdy materials

Great for shutters that actually open and close. Thick iron construction that look like the old days when installed. I put my shutters up last year using these and they look and work great. Will buy again.

Poor hardware

If using in wood these may be fine screws, but it says these are approved for brick and they definitely are not. Luckily I had some masonry screws on hand that took care of the job. Otherwise these hinges are very nice!

Who uses Straight Slot Screws anymore? Would have been a much easier install if it wasn't for the screws.

I had a hard time finding the right kind of rustic hinges I wanted for these diy shutter I made to cover a nook in my wall. These finally did the trick and look great! Love that I can remove the shutters from the spindles. Authentic.

We used these on a gate at our stairs. We wanted to use the same gate on 3 spots so we added the list off hinges in two locations which allows us to move the gate from one spot to the other. We are able to block off our stairs only, our stairs, kitchen, and pantry, or just the kitchen. It works great!

Two arrived broken and they chip and flake paint easily. Low quality iron. This is the same with their other products as well from the same seller. Shutter dogs are flimsy and the included bolts snap off easily. Also the screws are useless and flathead only.

They worked ok

They worked ok, but they shorted me some screws. Odd, because they came well packaged. And the screws are straight slot screws. I hate straight slot screws. It’s too early to tell whether they’ll rust or not. I used them on two sets of small, outdoor gates. They look great!

Phillips head screws were invented for a reason

Really good product . Inexpensive and they work great. Only complaint...using flat head screws instead of phillips head with a drill and screwdriver bit will drive you crazy. Bit slips out every turn. Phillips head would have been 100 times smarter.

Rustic, functional and beautiful

The hinges were exactly what I had been looking for for my privacy panels that I built to cover some ugly pool equipment. The panels were mounted to a frame of 2x4s so relatively heavy but the hinges are so sturdy and are able to support the weight with ease. The fact that they are detachable made assembly of panels and posts very easy. Aesthetically, they are also very good looking and just look "right". Sure, there were a few cases where the pin was slightly misaligned but it was easily fixed with a hammer, no problem. Next, I am building some panels to go around a large propane tank so additional hinge sets are on order!

These are super!

I bought several of these for a shutter project the common-law had on my list. I generally trash all of the hardware (screws, nuts, etc.) that come standard with parts like this and replace them with square drive hardware, mainly because the hardware is too soft and I end up frustrated with a handful of stripped fasteners. Not so here!The hardware here is top notch and while I hand drove every screw, I'm confident that I could uninstall and re-install several times before replacement screws would be required. How do I know? Well, I had to uninstall and re-install several screws do a slight miscalculation with no ill effect.I built my shutters out of treated deck boards rather than regular 1x treated pine, so we're talking right about 5/4" thickness rather than 3/4 thickness. Point here is they weigh way more than I intended, so I ended up using six of these mounts per pair of shutters (three per shutter). In hindsight, two mounts would be more than enough.So, order confidently.

Great hardware for the house, the fasteners...eh.

I found the shutter hinges to be in great condition and manufacture for the price, and pretty much similar to the original pieces the house originally had in the early 1900's. The screws were slotted, and appeared as a wrought type, but didn't stand up well to the screwdriver, which left a slight lip on most of the screws installed. One snapped in the wood, and the other was so damaged I though I wouldn't be able to replace it. I did match the driver blade to the width of the screw slot, but the material just wasn't as strong as it should have been.

Solid heavy duty. 1 pair hung a 40lb gate.

Great solid hinges. Used them to hang some custom baby gates I made that weigh about 40 lbs a piece and is swings like butter with 2 per gate. Star off for the problem mention about some of the holes not lining up well but I just went through them all and paired each piece together that worked best with its counter part and everything was fine for me.

Installation was easy and good product for inside rustic gates

After buying and returning many other products these hinges won the install. These were easy to install and came with everything that was needed. Added a little white grease to them so that the lift and opening and closing was smooth. Once they wear a little bit then no grease will be needed.

Flat head screws

This hardware is very high quality at a competitive price. Other than it being more common during the period of real, operable shutters, I’m scratching my head why the screws are all flat head and not phillips.

These are nice hinges they look great and get the job done.<br>A couple things that could be a little nicer and why they are not 5 star.<br>The pins were not exactly straight to the face, making it a little difficult to align and hang.<br>They are made of pot metal, and one of mine broke when mounting ( Renovator's Supply gets a 5 star for there service in getting it replaced quickly and without hassle.)<br>It would be nice if the top of pin were rounded or pointed to help in mounting the hinge.
