The doorplate and little button is attractive; however, it started to stick just four weeks after I installed it. it it "brass on brass". Get the WD-40 out and keep the area around the button gently lubed if you live in a damp area. In my case, the doorbell and door are under an overhanging porch.
I ordered two brass door bell ringer buttons. They look beautiful and are heavy brass. I have not installed yet. I’m hoping they keep their polished look because they go perfect with the Baldwin brass door handles which will not tarnish.
When the button is pressed a circular plate is moved inward to contact the two wires thereby completing the circuit and ringing the doorbell. My button; when completely "pushed in" didn't reach the two wire contacts. The solution was to file down the brass cylinder on the back of the doorbell button (the cylinder that the plastic cylinder screws into) After the brass cylinder height was decreased about 3-4 millimeters the button's circular plate could reach the two wires contacts and complete the circuit and ring the doorbell. The screws are of very low quality metal with burs. (you might opt to replace them) The main face plate is definitely solid brass and does look very nice. However, this doorbell button "in total" is not produced with precision. The inherent variations allow a high defect rate. So install it to see if yours is good or not. And return it promptly if you are not handy enough fix the defect or have a more confounding problem. I procrastinated installing mine (missed the return window) and had to fix it to use it.I very much like the way it looks but I don't like the way it works. Infrequently the spring in the button hangs on something and the bell is not rung despite my modification. If you just press the button with a little more force the spring hang is overcome, the bell is rung and normal function returns. All in all, I have doubts about the functional longevity of this doorbell button. But ring or not, it will still look very nice.
The doorbell itself is good quality. A little dated. The major problem is with the mounting hardware. Both mounting screws broke off and the use standard slot screws. Who uses standard slot screw anymore? I would expect phillips screws and better quality hardware
Button has to be pushed straight in or it hangs. Great thick brass doorbell but low quality mechanisms. Have to make a bigger hole for wire if replacing a standard button.
I wanted a doorbell button that looked good and was well made. This one is very attractive and it looks like it will last many years. It was easy to install with two supplied screws and the back wiring connection was very substantial..
This replaced an old doorbell that was hard to get to work and I'm so happy with the look and the operation of it. Glad I bought it.
It was a treat to get this fine polished button. only 4 style points with a stiff spring push; so stiff that meek trick or treaters were reluctant to push it hard enough to make it ring. More than 90% of the holloween crowd relied on one knocker not the bell. because old neighborhoods dont always work.
Well constructed, high quality and attractive. Cannot think of any negatives.
Nice and heavy true brass doorbell button. The kind that you want to install at your door. Simple low voltage 2-wire hook-up. I may just install another door bell just for my garage side entrance Would buy from Renovators Supply again.
It works, unlike the previous two from local hardware stores. I just needed a switch, not a lighted plastic module with a printed circuit board. And which did not accept 6-12 volt ac current as traditional doorbells do. It does not push "value added" plastic on me. It promises to be long lasting, it is attractive, and it is made in India (an actual democracy that is far to be preferred to China).
