Had to return as this item was shipped with 16TPI not 20TPI as indicated in desription. Would not work with already purchased 20TPI door knobs. Looks like nice product otherwise. A 7/16" shallow hole will need to be drilled behind base plate for square end of stud Much better concept than welding stud to base plate. Ended up using carriage bolt thru closet door instead. Would purchase again if threads as advertised would be provided. Had to give it one star just to send review.

Smaller, but door knob is held in place with set screw. I tried three different antique door knobs, none screwed onto the spindle. Spindle is stronger than the previous brand. Small relief needed to set spindle flush to door. Would buy again

Important part
I am grateful to have found this. The doorknob came off. I discovered that the existing part had broken -- the "spindle" part with the threads had separated from the plate part with the 3 holes. I had no idea how to resolve. Super glue did not work. I even went to a local metal shop and tried welding, but without success. When I went to the hardware store I found that the spindle part did not have a standard thread -- english or metric. But it did have same thread as other doorknob spindle parts! I looked on Amazon for "doorknob parts" and found that what I was looking for -- a "dummy spindle"! Problem solved. I did need to redrill the 3 holes in the door to get the doorknob to align properly. Easy! Thanks!!

A product that won't screw you!
This product is exactly what I needed. My significant other had purchased a new doorknob for the sliding door to the closet. She got a very nice regular door knob not realizing that we needed dummy knobs.These screwed right into the back of the new handle where the spindle would have gone, holding the trim plate in place. I did not screw this to the door (I just reused the existing holes in the door from the old knobs backing plate). As a result my knobs spin freely (which I like).Super easy to install. Could not be more pleased. My initial thought was that these were a bit pricey but now having used them they were worth every penny.

QUICK FIX FOR TENANTS ENTRYWAY DOOR
I have a vintage brownstone entry door with mortise lock set. Using this dummy doorknob spindle provided a quick and viable temporary solution until the custom ordered hardware can be determined and supplied.

High quality, actual product differs from listing photo
Excellent quality. Pictures are out of date as the base plate and stem have swapped colors: the 1-3/16 inch diameter base is zinc colored and the 1 inch long shaft is black. Mine came in small zip lock bags, no instructions, 3 slot-head brass screws, and the base and stem were 2 separate pieces. Also, the base has a clipped corner, not sure why. The brass screws are nice, but usually they'll be covered by the doorknob rose. Brass is also soft, easily stripped, easily broken, and this hardware should come with steel screws.Country of manufacture unknown.

Works, but poorly designed
Works but poorly engineered.It looks like a 5 year old engineered the product. Which consists of the circular plate with screw holes and a post that fits in; however, that post has a head to it which hold it to plate which is NOT flush with plate so it will wooble against the door when it is installed. So you must carefully screw in evenly so it sits straight.I counter sunk a screw hole behind the post so it would sit flush behind the plate on the door and works great. If you don’t do that or perfectly set your screws post will not sit straight.

Great for closet pulls.
